When you stay at The Charcoal Hut, there are plenty of reasons to leave the car. Whether you choose to leave it here, parked up for the duration of your stay, or go the whole nine-yards and leave it at home, there are plenty of reasons to leave the car and enjoy your weekend on foot (or bike).

Six Myddfai Walks

Every guest who stays at The Charcoal Hut receives a copy of the ‘six Myddfai walks’. This excellent small guide was prepared and written by a local rambler. There are six walks of varying length and difficulty, all starting from the Myddfai Community Centre. It’s a great plae to start your walk, provided you can drag yourselves away from the cafe and craft shop!

The Perfect Path

In addition to the woodland path, that takes you to a plethora of choices for local walks, you can head off on foot in almost any direction. We’re minutes from the Brecon Beacons National Park and a short walk from the town of Llandovery. Which path you choose tomorrow is up to you.

The Heart of Wales

This gorgeous local train line is like something out of a novel about the ‘good old days’. The stations are run largely by volunteers and the trains themselves are quaint and beautifully maintained. Some of the stops on the line still operate on a ‘request’ basis, meaning you must wave at the driver to get them to stop. Worth the journey to see Sugarloaf and the amazing views, alone.

For the adventure

Getting a little bit lost is what lead us to finding our beautiful home here. The wrong postcods helped us find a new path and we encourage all our guests to find theirs. We’ll provide maps and a compass (GPS can be stubborn in the trees) and can even organise a packed lunch. The quiet and the views are like a peace we’d never discovered before.

You’ll sleep soundly

Road rage is one of the most common causes of stress and bad sleep. Leaving the car behind for a few days can impact your blood pressure, your appetite and your sleep. You’ll sleep better here than you have in a long time. We guarantee it.

And the environment will thank you too! Imagine the impact you’ll be having on your carbon footprint. Leave the car. Come and walk. We’re ready to welcome you.
